I was born in Wisconsin, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and am a veteran of military service in Vietnam and Germany.  I attended the University of Regensburg for a semester, and then became a student at the University of Wisconsin, where I received a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering.  I am currently a technical contractor, working in the Washington, DC area.  My nom de plume, Helian, appears in the poetry of Georg Trakl.
